Burry Fredrik, Joy Flink, and Stanley Flink at Long Wharf Theatre
Remembering Joy Flink
1935-2025
Joy Flink, a founding Director of the Burry Fredrik Foundation, passed away on April 8, 2025.
Joy was a lifelong supporter of the performing arts. She began her arts career hosting a weekly radio program in Seattle featuring popular music. In the 1960s, she moved to New York and became the official film industry liaison for New York City Mayor John Lindsay. After marriages to screenwriter Bill Manhoff and film producer David Picker, Joy wed former Life Magazine correspondent and Yale University professor Stanley Flink and moved to New Haven, Connecticut. They were married for 47 years before his death in 2022. While living in Connecticut, Joy became active in the local theater scene, spending nearly 20 years on the Long Wharf Theatre Board of Trustees, many of those years as Treasurer of the Board.
In 1995, Joy’s long-time friend Burry Fredrik asked her to serve as the Vice-Chair of her newly established Burry Fredrik Foundation, a role she played until her passing. Joy generously bequeathed the underlying rights to The Owl and the Pussycat by Bill Manhoff to the Foundation, providing everlasting support for a purpose she held dear.
Joy lived a rich, full life, honoring her passion for and devotion to the performing arts. We remember and honor Joy - and her dear friend Burry - by carrying out the work of the Burry Fredrik Foundation and its commitment to support professional producing theater in the state of Connecticut.
